About Archontophoenix purpurea
This species is a medium-sized solitary palm. It has a slender, smooth, grey trunk that is ringed with old leaf scars. The leaves are pinnate and about 8-10 feet long, with numerous bright green leaflets arranged in a feather-like manner. One of its most distinctive features is its colorful crownshaft, which is a purplish-brown color and is prominently displayed at the top of the tree. The crownshaft is typically about 3-4 feet long and is covered in a waxy coating that gives it a shiny appearance. It produces small, creamy white flowers that are followed by small, red to purple fruits. It is a popular ornamental plant due to its striking appearance and ease of cultivation.

Cultivation Tips
Select a location that receives full sun to partial shade. Provide more shade when young. This species requires plenty of water and rich, well drained soil with organic matter. It needs enough vertical space to reach its maximum eventual height. It is surprisingly cold tolerant and can withstand a considerable amount of frost. Feed regularly during the growing season with high quality palm fertilizer.
