About Archontophoenix maxima
This species is a solitary palm that is likely the tallest species of its genus. It has a slender trunk that is expanded at the base. The green trunk is ringed with leaf scars, and as the tree matures, the trunk will turn to grayish brown. It has a bluish green crownshaft, which may reach 2 feet in length. The crown is topped with up to ten rigid, dark green feather shaped leaves. The branched inflorescence is the largest of the genus, producing a large number of small, white flowers. The oval shaped fruit turns red as it ripens. Still somewhat rare in cultivation.

Cultivation Tips
Select a location that receives partial shade to full sun. As with many palm species, provide more protection when young. As it matures, this species can handle full sun. Plant in rich soil with good drainage. Water regularly, as this species is not very drought tolerant. Feed occasionally during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
