This palm has a solitary trunk with a full and well rounded crown. The trunk is covered in spines and the leaflets have spines on the upper and lower leaf surfaces. It produces fragrant, creamy to light yellow flowers. The flower stalk emerges from among the leaves, It is commonly used as an ornamental plant due to its attractive appearance.

Cultivation Tips
Plant in a location with partial to moderate shade. The soil should be rich in organic matter and have very good drainage. It grows a fairly slender, spiny trunk. Feed with a good quality palm fertilizer that has continuous release formula twice a year during the growing season.
