This palm has a solitary trunk with a full and well rounded crown. The trunk is covered in spines and the leaflets have spines on the upper and lower leaf surfaces. It produces fragrant, creamy to light yellow flowers. The flower stalk emerges from among the leaves, It is commonly used as an ornamental plant due to its attractive appearance.
