About Wodyetia bifurcata

This is a thin trunked, crown shafted, medium height pinnate palm that is very attractive in appearance. Leaves are very plumose with leaflets coming off the leaf stem at all angles. Leaf color is green and the crown shaft is silver to green. Trunks may bulge slightly at their base and in their mid-section. Due to its unique foliage, self cleaning trunk and fast growth rate, it has become very popular in cultivation in tropical locations around the world.

Cultivation Tips

This species requires 80-90% full sun. A standard potting mix with 2:1 incorporation of both vermiculite and peat moss will give this palm the perfect well-aerated growing medium. This species prefers to have consistently moist soil. Water approximately twice weekly during the warm growing season, depending on growing conditions. In winter, watering may be reduced to 2-3 times monthly. Foxtail palms should be regularly fertilized during the warm growing season. Select a slow release fertilizer rich in micronutrients for palm trees. Make approximately 2-4 applications annually throughout the spring and summer.
