About Verschaffeltia splendida
A beautiful species from the Seychelle Islands that sports a slender, spiny trunk, supported by prominent stilt roots, and large, undivided leaves. One of the most spectacular palms around, which has the big three that palm collectors look for; entire leaves, (at least in young plants), a spiny trunk, and to top it all off, well developed stilt roots. The species is named "splendida" because of the tree's elegant and beautiful appearance.
Cultivation Tips
The distinguishing feature of this palm is the stilt roots supporting the slender stem. When planting, selection a position sheltered from the wind, which helps keep the leaves intact. This species will thrive in full sun or partial shade, and moist, but well drained soil. Requires consistently moist soil, do not let dry out between waterings. Feed with a high quality fertilizer several times during the growing season.
