About Satakentia liukiuensis
This species is a solitary, tall, salt-tolerant, forest emergent palm with a smooth, grey-brown trunk with spaced ring leaf scars. The trunk is topped with a brown or reddish green crownshaft, which is very distinguishable. The crown has large segmented, pinnate leaves. It is quite rare in cultivation and is vulnerable in the wild due to loss of habitat.
Cultivation Tips
As a juvenile, plant in a location that receives full to partial shade. As it matures, it can handle partial shade to full sun. It is tolerant to a variety of soil types and can even handle brief periods of frost. Water regularly, but don't let the roots sit in standing water.
