About Sabal minor var. louisiana
This is a dwarf palm that is the smallest of its genus. It is popular because of its legendary cold hardiness. This form has blueish leaves and will eventually form a short, above-ground trunk. It is very adaptable and can be seen in cultivation all around the world. In habitat, it can be found in the understory of forests in the southeastern United States. When in bloom, it produces long, upright inflorescences that rise well above the leaves. The stalks have many small, white flowers.
Cultivation Tips
It is one of the most winter-hardy palm species found in North America; it will also tolerate frost. However, it grows best in hot and humid tropical and subtropical summer weather. Just like the weather conditions, the plant easily grows in a variety of light conditions too. While it does well in direct sunlight to partial shade or even full shade, it thrives when planted in full sun protected from the wind. Feed occasionally during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
