About Sabal bermudana

This species is a solitary, slender palm with a trunk covered in rough, gray-brown bark with persistent leaf bases which is wider at the base and tapers towards the top. The crown is topped with fan shaped glossy dark green leaves with a diameter of up to 2 meters. Inflorescences are large and branched with small, yellow or cream colored flowers. The fruit is round and brown when ripe. The tree has cultural significance in Bermuda, where it is featured on the country's coat of arms and flag.

Cultivation Tips

This species thrives in subtropical and tropical climates. Plant in a location that receives full sun to partial shade to maximize growth rate. It can tolerate salt spray, strong winds, and drought, but it prefers well-drained soils and regular watering, especially during its early growth stages. While this species can tolerate a range of soil types, it will grow best in well-drained soils that are rich in organic matter. Feed occasionally during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
