About Ptychosperma schefferi
This species is a solitary, sometime clustering palm with slender, ringed stems. It is a medium sized palm with a green crownshaft with a whitish covering. Its crown has dark green, leaves with wide leaflets. When in bloom, the inflorescence has many small white flowers. The fruit turns a dark purple when fully ripe. While not particularly common in cultivation, it is used as a privacy screen in the tropics and subtropics.
Cultivation Tips
Select a location that receives full to partial shade, especially when young. As it matures, it can handle full sun. Grows well in acidic and alklaine moist soils and has some salt tolerance. It can tolerate cold snaps down to freezing. Requires consistently moist soil; do not let dry out between waterings. Feed regularly during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
