About Pritchardia thurstonii

This is a medium sized solitary species with a brown or dark gray trunk, with vertical fissures and narrow rings of leaf scars. The trunk often spreads slightly at the base. The crown has large, green palmate leaves that are rigidly ribbed. Its unique feature is the seed pods that extend beyond its crown of leaves.

Cultivation Tips

Plant in a location that receives full sun. Maintain moist, but well drained soil. Prefers tropical conditions, will not grow in temperate climates and is marginal in areas that receive periodic frosts. Well suited to coastal areas as it's both wind and salt tolerant. Feed regularly during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
