About Pritchardia pacifica
This is a large and stately species, with a trunk that is covered in dark brown fibers and leaf scars. It's crown is topped with a dense crown of large, palmate leaves. The fronds are green and glossy, and can measure up to 8 feet in length. They are supported by long petioles and have a characteristic fan-like shape. The plant produces small, yellow flowers that are followed by clusters of orange-red fruit. It is quite common in cultivation, especially in tropical locations.
Cultivation Tips
This species is particularly tolerant of seaside conditions and salt spray, making it an excellent choice for planting along the coasts in the tropics. It tolerates low levels of humidity, though it prefers evenly moist but not consistently wet, well drained soil. Prefers full sun but will tolerate half day sun. To prevent nutritional deficiency, apply good quality palm fertilizer that has continuous release formula twice a year during the growing season.
