About Phoenix roebelenii
This species has a slender trunk covered by old leaf bases. Its crown has feathery, dark green fronds that can grow up to 3 feet in length. The bases of the fronds do have long, sharp needle like spines. It is highly prized for its ornamental value and is commonly used in landscaping for its attractive appearance and versatility.
Cultivation Tips
These palms handle direct sunlight. These are semi-tropical plants which will require regular watering when establishing. It is important to feed them regularly to keep them green and growing healthy. Keep them mulched year round to help reduce evaporation from the soil. Apply fertilizer seasonally, using a slow-release fertilizer specially formulated for rose plants. While this may seem strange, palms like the magnesium often found in these mixes as they prevent yellow spots on their fronds! Apply once every spring, summer, and fall, letting them rest in the winter.
