About Kerriodoxa elegans
This species is a beautiful, small understory palm with a rather thin solitary gray trunk that is sometimes short and subterranean. It is notable for its spectacular large circular leaves, which are well pleated, nearly unsplit or only shallowly split. Leaves are whitish on the lower side and glossy green above. Inflorescence emerges from amongst the leaves. The fruit is yellow to orange-brown when ripe.
Cultivation Tips
Likes a shady, warm position with moist, well drained soil, It needs shelter from the winds, which will damage the large fronds. Water regularly, and note that this palm will tolerate occasional dryness. Do not let roots sit in water. It is surprisingly hardy for a palm found in such a tropical location. Feed occasionally during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
