About Chambeyronia oliviformis

Formerly Kentiopsis oliviformis.  This species is a large, highly ornamental solitary palm with a slender gray trunk.  The palm has a pale green to dark green crownshaft, slightly bulging at its base.  The crown holds up to a dozen stiff, erect dark green pinnate leaves.  This is one of the tallest and fastest growing species from New Caledonia.  The small oval shaped fruit turns red as it ripens.

Cultivation Tips

Select a location that receives full shade to partial shade with filtered light.  This is a forest emergent species, so as it matures, it can handle more sunlight.  This species likes a sub-tropical rather than tropical climate. Rare in cultivation but very adaptable. This palm grows well in acidic and alkaline, regularly moist soils. It can tolerate short cold snaps to high 20s with moderate salt tolerance.  Feed occasionally during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
