About Howea forsteriana
This species is one of the most popular indoor palms because of its adaptability to low sunlight conditions and elegant appearance. It is a solitary species with a slender trunk that is dark green when young, but turns brown and becomes ringed with leaf scars as it matures. Three dozen arching evergreen fronds form a graceful crown. It will flower once annually, usually during November - Decembers. Adults will fruit at approximately fifteen years of age. The fruit is oval, pointed at both ends and turns red to brown as it becomes ripe.
Cultivation Tips
This species will grow in a variety of soils, provided it is well drained and situated in a humid environment. As it won't tolerate a location situated in full sun, it's best to place it in a location that receives partial shade to medium, filtered sunlight. It has a moderate tolerance to drought conditions, so it’s better to miss a watering than overdo it and create soggy soil conditions. Feed monthly throughout the growing season, but stop fertilizer applications during fall and winter.
