About Copernicia fallaensis
This is a prized solitary palm with a massive, light gray trunk. It has a huge, rounded crown with many enormous, oval leaf blades that are waxy blue green in color. The pleated fan leaves are perfectly symmetrical in shape making it a very distinctive palm in cultivation. Due to over harvesting of the palm leaves for thatch and weaving, it is considered critically endangered. Its last remaining natural population has less than 100 mature wild specimens.
Cultivation Tips
Plant in full sun. This species is adaptable to a wide range of soils, provided it is well drained. Avoid letting the roots sit in water. As the palm is somewhat drought resistant, it may resist to drought periods, but it benefits from regular watering during warmer months. It can tolerate short cold snaps and has some salt tolerance. Fertilize occasionally during the growing season.
