About Coccothrinax crinita subsp. crinita

This species is a solitary palm notable for its slender trunk that is covered with a thick layer of wool-like fibers. Circular fan shaped leaves grow right from the trunk and are stiff, spirally arranged and deeply divided. They grow on short unarmed petioles and are bright green on top and silver to gray underneath. During the summer, the inflorescence emerges from among the leaves and extends out beyond the leaves producing yellow flowers. The round fruit turns a dark purple color when fully ripe.

Cultivation Tips

Select a location that receives partial shade to full sun.  When young, it will require some sun protection.  As it matures, it will endure full sun.  It will thrive in rich soil with good drainage.  Water occasionally, as this species has some drought tolerance.  Allow the soil to completely dry out between watering.  Feed occasionally with a high quality palm fertilizer.
