About Coccothrinax alta

In its native habitat, this species can be found growing in limestone and volcanic substrates at lower elevations, up to 350 m above sea level.  This is a slender, solitary palm with a crown of fan shaped leaves that are green on the top on silvery on the underside.  When in bloom, its flowers are light yellow.  The small, round fruit turns purple-black when ripe.

Cultivation Tips

Select a location that receives full sun to partial shade.  Plant in rich soil with good drainage.  This species is somewhat drought and salt tolerant, so be careful not to overwater.  Feed occasionally during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
