About Chamaedorea hooperiana

This is a multi-stemmed species with slender stems similar to bamboo canes. The stems are a dark green color, with gray rings formed by leaf scars. The crownshaft is light green and is larger at the base than the stem below. The crown is topped with a cluster of blue green leaves. The fruit is bright orange when ripe.

Cultivation Tips

Select a location that receives full to partial shade and some indirect light. This is a robust species that is easy to grow. It is more than other species in its genus to low humidity and light freezes due to its thick, leathery leaves. Plant in well drained, peaty soil-based potting mix with an acidic to neutral pH. Keep the soil moist, but allow it to dry out a little between waterings. Feed occasionally during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
