About Burretiokentia hapala
This species is a solitary palm that grows in moist, wet forests at elevations of 150 to 1,500 feet. It has a bright green, ringed trunk and a prominent crownshaft. it will often develop stilt roots at the base. The crown is topped with glossy pinnate leaves that can be up to seven feet long. The species is notable for its fuzzy inflorescence, which resemble dreadlocks, hence its common name. The inflorescence emerges from the crownshaft, starts out white and becomes brown with age. The oval shaped fruit turns purple at maturity.
Cultivation Tips
This solitary palm grows under forest canopy but can be emergent when mature. Plant in a location that receives filtered light and partial shade. It can only tolerate full sun when mature.
